50 THREE-PLACE DESKS AT THE SAN FILIPPO NERI ERUTE UGANDA SCHOOL
This is the school of S. Filippo Neri Nerute, diocese of Lira, to which Wecare donated 50 three-seater desks.
And the thanks of Don Opio Vallente:
"S. Filippo Neri is a small place located on the outskirts of the city of Lira East, about 3 km from the cathedral. It used to be a chapel under the cathedral but is slowly becoming a parish. S. Filippo Neri Erute is a place mainly occupied by people displaced from the far east of Uganda by the civil war and cattle raids by the Karamojong tribe. The population consists mainly of poor people who survive on a small income from the sale of shea oil etc. Some members of the population earn a living working in Indian factories because these are close to the industrial area. Young people are carpenters and builders. Even S. Filippo's church, which is now being restored, is worked on by young builders who are happy to do it as a tithe. we only buy materials. The kindergarten and primary school was started for the benefit of poor children whose parents or guardians cannot afford the fees at the better schools. Some children have lost their parents or grandparents in the war. We have many families who take care of the orphans. But since the school cannot function without tuition fees, some small fees are charged, but it is still difficult for some parents. Some of them have difficulty buying school uniforms."
