Carlo Olmo and the Venice Film Festival
Carlo Olmo, philanthropist and our benefactor, is the protagonist of the short film Lupo Bianco presented at the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival. He has been very active both professionally, as a lawyer and international expert in children's rights, and in sports, as manager of the Vercelli School of Martial Arts, which has also brought him into close contact with China. His artistic activity is also interesting, in 2018 he published "Gli Infiniti diversi" a collection of over 200 poems, in 2019 the Civic Theatre of Vercelli hosted his two-act melodrama "Il cerchio della luna - Storia della Grande Dea" with music composed by Giacomo Platini, performed by OFI (Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana) and as narrator the Italian voice actor Luca Ward. A copy of the work was also presented to Chinese President Xi Jinping. His activities as a benefactor are great. In recent years, he has supported two orphanages in Katmandu and donated an ambulance to the Vercelli Red Cross, has supported the oncology ward of the Regina Margherita paediatric hospital in Turin, promoted the construction of a nursery school in Peru, a children's library in Kenya, supported the construction of an electricity line in a very poor area in Vietnam, is planning to build a classroom in a women's prison in Mexico and another initiative in Mosul, Iraq. He was extremely active during the covid period towards the Vercelli hospital with many donations of masks and equipment. He also made a large contribution in the form of scholarships to medical students at the University of Eastern Piedmont, who were in difficulty due to the corona virus crisis. Not to mention the large donation made to our WECARE for the hospital in Aber. This year, in addition to being named 'Vercellese of the Year', he was awarded the honour of 'Cavaliere al Merito della Repubblica Italiana' (Knight of Merit of the Italian Republic) for his immense solidarity and generosity during the pandemic.
